The Fochteloërveen is one of the last remaining raised bog regions in the Netherlands. Because of its unique natural features, the Fochteloërveen is part of the European Natura 2000 network, a status that comes with an obligation to preserve and protect this vulnerable natural habitat. Central to Veenvertellingen are the stories, past and present, of the relationship between people and landscape and the challenges this presents.
